Etihad's cargo volume up 17 percent in November
(MENAFN) Etihad Cargo, the freight division of UAE's flag carrier Etihad Airways, said that it expects that the amount of freight it has carried will amount to more than 570.000 tons, an increase by 17 percent compared to 2013, on the back of the division carrying 53.292 tons in cargo across its global network in November, an all-time record in one month for the airline, Emirates 24/7 reported.
The freighter said that the amount of cargo it carried in November has surpassed its previous monthly record of 51.688 it carried in October and that this increase has resulted in the division's revenue to reach USD1 billion by the end of the January-November period of this year.
Etihad Cargo said that this increase is the result of the division expanding its network this to include more destinations including Medina, Los Angeles, Zurich, Rome, Perth, Phuket, Dallas and San Francisco, thus bringing the total number of passenger destinations on which cargo services are currently provided to 90.
Meanwhile, the company also expanded its only-cargo services this to include a new weekly services to Dar es Salaam and Entebbe in East Africa, a three-times-a- week service to Hanoi in Vietnam, and a twice-weekly service to Moscow in Russia, which brings the number of freighter-only destinations currently operated by Etihad Cargo to 15 routes.
'We have seen strong growth in cargo volumes over the last year, and particularly to and from Asia and Africa as we continue to leverage the strategic location of our hub in Abu Dhabi to provide a link between the mature markets and emerging economies around the world,' Etihad Airways' Chief Strategy and Planning Officer said.
