UAE's DEWA to award USD272m second solar plant contract

(MENAFN) The UAE's Electricity and Water (DEWA) announced it is planning to award a 272 million tender for phase two of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum solar park to developers, Gulf News reported.

DEWA said that the award will go to the lowest bidder that also meets the technical specifications of the project, which involves constructing 100 megawatts (MW) at the solar park, which opened in October 2013 with an initial 13MW, with plans that it will a 1000MW capacity by 2030.

DEWA said that the solar plant, which is constructed as part of a Dubai government-led effort to diversify the emirates energy mix to have 5 per cent from solar power by 2030, will be joined by a coal power plant, which will result in the emirate having 12 percent of its energy coming from clean coal by 2030.
