Oman to invest USD2.84b on new wastewater projects
(MENAFN) According to Haya Water, Oman's flagship wastewater utility, the country's government announced it is planning to invest around USD2.84 billion in new wastewater projects across the Sultanate during 2016 " 2020 period, Oman Observer reported.
Haya Water said that the invested money will be used on projects which have been planned in all of the governorates with the exception of Muscat Governorate where a multi-billion project is already under implementation.
"The Council of Ministers has decided that Haya Water should provide wastewater services throughout the country, with the exception of the south. At the moment there are about 58 sewage treatment plants (STPs) in all the governorates outside Muscat with the exception of the Governorate of Dhofar, with about 1000 km of sewage lines and about 22 km of treated effluent (TE) lines," Haya Water's CEO said.
Haya Water also said that it currently has plans to execute 16 projects in 2015 with total value of USD69.90 million, as well as a five-year plan for areas outside Muscat early next year.
This commissioned five-year master-plan is expected to provide a road map for the implementation of wastewater projects outside the capital region, with the company already acquiring a number of new projects under the new mandate that expanded its reach to include all the sultanate except the Governorate of Dhofar.
