UAE, Qatar lavishes local airlines with USD40b subsidies

(MENAFN) The United Arab Emirates and Qatar are being hit hard by a number of accusations from US airlines for a so called subsidies addition of about USD40b, paid by the government to local airlines and thus distorting market competition, Reuters reported.

In the United States, carriers are trying to cajole the government to change from the "Open Skies" accord signed with both UAE and Qatar. Notwithstanding, Emirates, Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways have officially annulled the subsidy claims.

Prime U.S. carriers persistently aim at putting some bounds on what they claim to be a very unfair and greatly subsidized competition from Gulf counterparts.
