    Jordan gets USD4.6m to launch Red Sea-Dead Sea project

    (MENAFN) The Water Ministry signed the engineering services agreement for the first phase of the crucial Red Sea-Dead Sea Water Conveyance Project (Red-Dead), according to the latest reports.

    The USD4.6 million contract is funded by a grant from the French government, and will consist of a global consortium that will provide technical and financial services for the Red-Dead project.

    The project's main components are a seawater intake structure; an intake pump station; a seawater pipeline and desalination plant with a capacity of 65-85 million cubic meters yearly, among others.

    In the first phase, an overall 300mcm of water will be pumped each year, and in its following phases, the project will transfer up to 2 billion cubic meters annually of seawater from the Red Sea to the Dead Sea.
