Iran inks transit deal with India, Afghanistan

(MENAFN) Iran was declared to have signed a transit deal with Indian and Afghanistan for products to go through Chabahar, an Iranian southeastern port city.

Head of Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization Mohammad Rastad penned the deal at a meeting of the coordination council of a pact secured previously on setting up a global transport and transit corridor between Iran, India and Afghanistan.

Secretary of economic relations in India's Ministry of External Affairs T.S. Tirumurti also signed the agreement with Afghanistan's deputy minister of transport Imam Mohammad Warymoch.

The three countries inked a trilateral transit contract in May of 2016, enabling them to launch new routes of connection in turning Chabahar port into a transit hub.
