    Iraq inks power plants renovation pact

    (MENAFN) Iraq's Ministry of Electricity sealed with a consortium a USD1.3 billion agreement for revamp works on a couple of power plants located in Salahudin, an Iraqi central province.

    The consortium which signed the agreement consists of the German Siemens and the Egyptian Orascom.

    Baiji 1 and Baiji 2 power plants will be renovated as per the deal by the two German and Egyptian firms, the Iraqi ministry confirmed.

    Both companies, the ministry noted, will inject 1.69 gigawatts to the total power generation capacity in Iraq over a 28-month period.

    Statistics revealed that at the moment, Iraq produces more than 18 gigawatts of power, as the country requires over 24 gigawatts.
