    Turkey: education expenditures increase by 22 percent

    (MENAFN) According to Turkey's statistical authority, Turkey's education expenses grew almost 22 percent yearly in 2018 and as said by the Turkish Statistical Institute, the country used USD44.5 billion last year compared to USD48.3 billion in 2017.


    The figure increased most for pre-primary education by 27.3 percent and upper secondary education with 24.3 percent through the same period; the share of education costs on Turkey's GDP was at 5.8 percent in 2018, in comparison with 5.7 percent in 2017.


    Public sources financed 72.9 percent of the education expenditure in Turkey last year and the biggest amount was spent on tertiary education by public institutions, USD10.6 billion.


    In 2018, the share of education spending by households was 20.0 percent and education spending for each student was USD2, 030 last year, while the amount was USD3, 371 for tertiary education.
