    Food banking system to be improved in Turkey

    (MENAFN)According to the country’s forestry and agriculture minister, food banking will become one of the most effective weapons in averting food waste in Turkey.

    An online workshop on food banking in municipalities quoted Bekir Pakdemirli as saying that “It is our duty to identify deficiencies and improve the food banking system. The responsibility of the municipalities is to encourage the use of this system.”

    “There are many food banks among our municipalities that are following this practice properly and can inspire others too.”

    About 4.9 million loaves of bread are wasted in Turkey every day, as fruit and vegetable loss stands at 50 percent, he further stated.
