Lebanon faces fundamental challenge after blast in Beirut on Aug. 4

(MENAFN)A year following the horrific explosion that tore apart Beirut, the capital city of Lebanon, social and economic scars of the tragedy still remain in several areas.

The blast of a warehouse in the Port of Beirut filled with nearly 3,000 tons of ammonium nitrate resulted in more than 200 deaths on Aug. 4, and 6,000 wounded and 300,000 homeless.

The streets of post-explosion Beirut looked like a war-zone, with neighborhoods damaged, buildings collapsed, and roads shattered.

The city now faces a fundamental challenge after the humanitarian tragedy that corresponded with a harsh economic crisis and the healthcare system already collapsed under the Coronavirus pandemic.
