Jordan to provide Lebanon with electricity

(MENAFN) On Thursday, Jordan’s energy minister stated that the country aims to begin providing Lebanon with electrical energy towards the end of this year, as the government of Lebanon attempts to deal with its weak energy shortages in the midst of the nation's financial collapse.

Hala Zawati reported to Sky News Arabia that Lebanon was pursuing World Bank funding for the plan, part of efforts supported by the US to tackle the country’s energy catastrophe.

Under an arrangement declared in October, Egypt is going to provide natural gas to Lebanon through a pipeline that goes through Jordan and Syria to assist in enhancing Lebanon's electricity production.

The strategy, as put by the Lebanese presidency three months ago, also includes using Egyptian gas to produce electricity in Jordan for supplying to Lebanon through the Syrian power network.
