    Turkish benchmark stock index reaches 1,600 points

    (MENAFN) The Turkish major stock index surpassed 1,600 points for the first time ever to end Monday at and hitting a record high of 1,608.54 points.

    Beginning the day at 1,589.43 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index soared 24.95 points, or 1.58 percent, up from Friday's end of 1,583.59 points.

    This was the third trading day in a row that the Borsa Istanbul 100 recorded an all-time high.
    The index's lowest value throughout the day was 1,589.23 points and its day-to-day high amounted at 1,609.07 points.

    The overall market worth of the BIST 100 was above 1.26 trillion Turkish liras (USD130.2 billion) by market end, with a day-to-day trading volume of 25.6 billion Turkish liras (USD2.6 billion).

    A sum of 74 stocks on the index increased, whereas 21 dropped and five remained the same in comparison to Friday's end.
