    Turkish retail sales soars 15.2 percent in October

    (MENAFN) According to the Turkish statistical authority statement on Monday, the country’s retail sales volume, an indicator of growing consumer expenditure, jumped 15.2 percent in October in comparison to the corresponding month of the previous year.

    Based on the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) data, non-food sales, without automotive fuel – increased 24.5 percent, whereas automotive fuel sales soared 6 percent on a yearly basis during October. Also, Food, drink, and tobacco sales climbed 4.8 percent during the same time span.

    Among non-food products, textile, clothing, as well as footwear sales increased the most, jumping 43.5 percent from October last year, followed by computers, books as well as telecommunications gear (16.7 percent) and medical items and cosmetics (15.7 percent).

    Moreover, sales by mail order and the internet jumped 52.7 percent on an annual basis in October.
