    Major Turkish stock index starts session at high record

    (MENAFN) On Tuesday, the Turkish major stock index started at 2,103.56 points, increasing by 47.20 points, or 2.30 percent, from the last ending.

    On Monday, the BIST 100 index ended the day at 2,056.36 points, by dropping 28.11 points, or 1.35 percent, with an everyday exchange capacity of 45.2 billion Turkish liras (USD2.6 billion).

    After President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's declaration for a new scheme to compensate lira shareholders for currency fluctuations, the lira significantly increased its worth.

    The US dollar/Turkish lira trading rate fell by 32.6 percent to 11.9810 on 9.30 a.m. domestic time (0630GMT), in comparison to 17.7980 at the last ending.

    The euro/lira trading rate also plummeted by 33.2 percent to reach 13.4090 versus 20.0750, whereas a British pound exchanged for 17.5120 liras, declining quickly from 23.6490.
