Survey: 88 percent of UAE citizens uses new digital payment method in 2021

(MENAFN) As shown by a new survey nearly 88 percent of consumers in the UAE have used more than one developing payment method in the last year as the approach to a digital economy fastens.

MasterCard’s New Payments Index 2022 showed that 39 percent of UAE citizens used a tappable smartphone mobile wallet, 29 percent used buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) application, 20 percent used cryptocurrency as well as 18 percent used a payment-enabled wearable tech device.

Customers are also making buys using voice assistants as well as social media applications, showed the survey, which asked 1,000 grownups in the UAE in addition to 35,040 people internationally.

JK Khalil, cluster CEO for Mena East at MasterCard stated that “It is exciting to see the increased adoption of emerging payment methods and consumers’ eagerness to reap the benefits of the digital economy in the UAE and across the region.”

Internationally, the epidemic encouraged the quicker acceptance of digital payments, mainly contactless payments, due to heightened awareness around the expansion of the virus via bills as well as plastic money.
