Turkey's Indigenous Supersonic Combat Aircraft, Hurjet, Completes Maiden Flight

(MENAFN) Turkey's first indigenous supersonic combat aircraft, Hurjet, successfully completed its maiden flight on Tuesday, according to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Twitter. The aircraft is the result of an advanced jet trainer and light attack aircraft project launched in 2017 by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI). With its superior performance characteristics, tandem seat with modern avionics, and high-performance features, the single-engine aircraft fulfills a critical role in modern pilot training, according to TAI.

The Hurjet is designed to replace aging jet trainers and will be used as advanced jet trainers due to the increasing number of 5th generation aircrafts such as TFX and F-35, and their changing configurations, TAI said. The aircraft's superior performance characteristics make it an ideal choice for pilot training, as it can simulate the performance of modern fighter jets, providing pilots with the necessary skills to operate these advanced aircraft.

The Hurjet has a length of 13.4 meters (44 feet) and a wingspan of 9.5 meters (31 feet). It is a single-engine aircraft that can reach supersonic speeds, making it a valuable addition to Turkey's military capabilities. The aircraft's maiden flight marks an important milestone in Turkey's efforts to develop its domestic defense industry, reducing its reliance on foreign suppliers.

The Hurjet project is part of Turkey's broader efforts to modernize its military and develop indigenous defense technologies. The country has invested heavily in defense research and development in recent years, with a particular focus on developing advanced technologies such as unmanned aerial vehicles, missile defense systems, and electronic warfare systems. The Hurjet is a testament to Turkey's growing capabilities in the defense sector, and it is expected to play a significant role in the country's defense strategy in the years to come.

Overall, the successful maiden flight of the Hurjet marks an important achievement for Turkey's defense industry. The aircraft's superior performance characteristics and advanced features make it an ideal choice for modern pilot training, and its supersonic capabilities make it a valuable addition to Turkey's military capabilities. The Hurjet project is a testament to Turkey's growing capabilities in the defense sector, and it is expected to contribute significantly to the country's defense strategy in the future.
