Saudi Arabia Invests USD373m to Enhance Electricity Networks, Reduce Carbon Emissions

(MENAFN) Saudi Arabia is embarking on a significant investment of SR1.4 billion (USD373 million) to upgrade and improve electricity networks in three governates, aiming to reduce liquid fuel consumption and carbon emissions. The state-owned Saudi Electricity Co. will be responsible for implementing these improvements in Rafha, Al-Wajh, and Najran, according to reports from the Saudi Press Agency.

The primary objective of this initiative is to enhance the reliability and continuity of electricity supply while optimizing the efficiency of electric power generation units for the benefit of subscribers. By investing in these upgrades, the government seeks to minimize environmental impact and promote sustainability in the energy sector.

In the first phase of the project, a 380 kilovolt overhead line spanning 328 km will be established to connect Rafha to the public electricity network in the eastern sector. This connection is expected to significantly improve the accessibility and reliability of electricity supply in Rafha. The line will have a capacity of 1,650 kilovolt-amps, ensuring a robust and efficient power transmission system.

The second phase of the project focuses on the Al-Wajh governorate, where an overhead line spanning 210 km will be constructed to connect the region to the Green Duba power station. This connection will enable Al-Wajh to benefit from the reliable and sustainable power generated by the station, contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions and the overall environmental impact of the energy sector.

These investments in upgrading electricity networks align with Saudi Arabia's broader commitment to sustainable development and reducing reliance on traditional liquid fuels. By improving the efficiency and reliability of the electricity infrastructure, the country aims to enhance energy security, reduce environmental harm, and provide better services to its residents.

Through these strategic enhancements, Saudi Arabia demonstrates its dedication to advancing sustainable practices in the energy sector. By investing in modern infrastructure and promoting the use of cleaner energy sources, the country is taking significant steps toward achieving its long-term environmental goals while supporting the overall development and well-being of its communities.
